Duty Over Love

Love is the death of duty.

~ Master Aemon Targaryen of Game of Thrones’ The Wall ~

Does true love exist? Is happily ever after meant for this worldly life?

You have lived your life for others way too long you couldn’t remember when exactly the last time you selfishly simply went for one of those getaway adventures you used to have in the past.

You have become this numb robot, pushing through days carrying your responsibilities on your little and fragile shoulders and back.

When was the last time you truly love and simply let go? Soaring freely across the blue sky and gliding seamlessly above the oceans. When was the last time you dare to simply be you, without worrying of consequences? When?

When was the last time your write from your soul? Beautiful rhymes that sing along, resounding your deepest yearning of love.

When was the last time you simply touch and talk to the plants, the flowers, the seeds? Growing of the Earth, fluorishing with grace while producing miraculously healing magic. When was the last time you reconnect? To feel grounded and ready to return.

Unknowingly, life has become bleak like those black and white documentaries you would easily be indifferent from.

Your conscience always speaks truth. You will always choose duty over love. This notion of self-sacrifice and heroism has fueled your being to always get up, again and again, even when the going gets tough.

Even when your heart breaks into a million pieces, you would somehow find a way to piece them all back together. With countless stitches that leave lasting scars, you push through despite the pain. Standing up strong again, even stronger than you have ever been.

Sometimes life without love becomes hardly bearable, and you would ask yourself, is this still going to be long? Life. When is it going to end?

You would grab anything you could hold on to, simply to survive another day. Your lovely spouse, children, families and friends become your consolation.

Occassionally, God sends your surprises that remind you that indeed life is beautiful and you are loved. So, have faith and love yourself.

Give yourself the little treats you deserve. A cup of iced cold latte. A bowl of sumptuous alfredo mac n cheese. Binge watching Kate and Anthony in Bridgerton.

Once in a while, you’d tell yourself that it is okay to temporarily escape this world and transport yourself into that imaginary world where true love thrives and happily ever after exists.

But sometimes, you’d spend too much time in the un-reality that your daydreaming of beautiful love and ending has consumed you like an opium. You couldn’t live without it.

You need to resolve this predicament of yours.

How do you stay dutiful and have as much fulfilling as enjoyable life with love?
